The SC second series

An extract from the 1981 catalogue launching the range in Japan

The second series of the SC was launched in December 1980 and appeared as above in the 1981 Japanese catalogue, they ceased late 1982 or early 1983. I have not seen any of these in the western catalogues so they are probably for the domestic market. I fail to see why these are called SCs they bear no resemblance to the previous series and don't have the multiple pickup combinations.
They are an SG style shape with three single coils. There is an unusual feature to the controls which I have only seen in Yamahas. That is that there is a push switch which in one position has all the windings of the pickups but in the other reduces the windings used by a third.

This is the top of the range 7000 in brown burst the only model in this second series to have the through neck.
Despite the rather strange Strat SG combination I think this is a great looking guitar.

The range comprises of the 3000, 5000 and the 7000 all are 25.5" scale and 13.75" radius with Yamaha SG Style headstock and offset body. The 7000 and the 5000 have gold hardware and the 3000 chrome hardware.

I can't comment on prices as these almost never come up for sale, in 4 years of watching Ebay auctions I haven't seen any of them.
